From Bean to Brew, Passion in Every Cup

Kirinyaga County Co-operative Union Ltd was founded in the year 1959 and incorporated on 30th day of July 1963 under the Companies Act Cap 486. His Excellency and the founder of Kenya Mzee Jomo Kenyatta laid down the foundation stone on the 28th day of March 1971 at the union headquarters in the town of Kerugoya.

The Union was established with the mandate to serve the co-operative societies by the provision of facilities including but not limited to Banking, Insurance, Farm inputs and Transport in order to enjoy the economies of scale and other added benefits.

Due to union vibrancy, it has arteries spread across the County of Kirinyaga and fully owned by Primary Co-operative Societies who are the shareholders undertaking coffee, dairy, irrigation and timber farming.

The Objectives:
A History of Premium Culture

It was established to serve the co-operative societies by the provision of sub-sidised facilities such as banking, insurance, farm inputs and transport in order to acquire economies of scale.

Other free services offered include Book-keeping, audit and advisory services. The Union also pays dividend to the affiliated societies.

Union Activities

Commercial/Residential Buildings

The Union invests in commercial and residential properties to generate income and support its operations.

Demonstration Farms

Demonstration farms provide training on modern coffee farming practices to improve yield and quality.

Vehicles

A fleet of 2 vehicles support transportation, field operations, and service delivery to member societies.

Coffee Cupping Lab

The cupping lab evaluates coffee quality to ensure high standards and better market value.

The Coffee Mill

The mill is 8 tonnes per hr (6 tonnes dedicated to parchment and 2 tonnes to Mbuni) milling plant along Kutus/Sagana main road 1 km from Kimicha town centre towards Kagio town and 500 meters from the main road in the Mwea West District at Komboi-ini location.

The above project is intended to mill coffee parchment from the affiliated societies within Kirinyaga County and other interested growers.

Inoi Farmers Cooperative Society (FCS Code 0417) is located in Kirinyaga Central Subcounty within Kirinyaga County and was established in 1954. The society operates at an altitude of approximately 1400 meters above sea level and comprises 11 factories, serving a total of 6,117 farmers. The region is characterized by loam soil and relies primarily on rivers as its main water source. The area experiences a cool to warm, humid, and rainy climate, with annual rainfall ranging between 1200mm and 1700mm. The main coffee picking season runs from October to December.
